Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez, a Mexican-American performer and actress, is quite well-known. As a child, Sara was racially taunted by many people in America. As she entered the 9th grade she began to feel more comfortable after she was praised by her teachers for singing at a school's audition. The experience not only helped to boost her confidence, but also changed her goals in the future. At 22 she was a graduate of New York's Julliard School. In 1993, she made her Broadway debut with Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was You've Got Mail. However her greatest breakthrough came when she starred in the part of The Lady of The Lake in the first Broadway show Spamalot winning not just the Tony Award for her performance but also a flurry of praise from critics. Later that year, as Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy for ABC her role was given greater appreciation. She is also a known singer and has produced an extended show. As an activist, she is a tireless advocate in the cause of LGBT equality.
